Simon And Garfunkel Reunite In New York

simon_and_garfunkelPaul Simon and Art Garfunkel joined forces for a surprise reunion on Friday night (Feb. 13) at New York’s Beacon Theatre, which was hosting its first event after a seven-month renovation by Madison Square Garden Entertainment.

The pair performed “The Sound of Silence,” “The Boxer” and “Old Friends” during the encore, marking what is believed to be just their third appearance together since concluding a 2004 reunion tour. Garfunkel had flown in from Florida, where he played in Key Largo the night before and was scheduled to play in Fort Pierce on the 14th.

The reunion added extra glitz to an evening attended by celebrities such as New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, Paul McCartney, Jon Bon Jovi and Jimmy Fallon, and showcased the Beacon’s refurbished interior and new sound system.

Simon played an eclectic two-set show, drawing equally from classics such as “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard,” “Slip Slidin’ Away” and “Graceland” as he did songs from his ill-fated Broadway musical “The Capeman” and newer material such as “Father and Daughter” and “Amulet,” a collaboration with Brazilian vocalist Luciana Souza.

Also featured were off-the-beaten-path cuts such as “Duncan,” which hearkened back to Simon’s folk roots, “Train in the Distance,” from the critically maligned 1983 album “Hearts & Bones,” and “Loves Me Like a Rock,” a 1973 precursor to Simon’s future dabbling in African music.

Adam Sandler covers Neil Young

Recently, Adam Sandler turned up on the David Letterman Show, strapped on a Les Paul and covered Neil Young’s classic Like A Hurricane.

And it was no joke. Really.

Joined by veteran guitarist Waddy Wachtel and backed by the Late Show Orchestra, Sandler’s take on Young’s 1977 song was surprisingly solid and gutsy.

The comic actor’s reedy voice was a dead ringer for Young’s. He even played a raw and ragged guitar solo - another perfect match. Check out the video below.

Sandler’s version of Like A Hurricane will be featured on Covered, A Revolution In Sound, due in March from Warner Brothers Records. The album celebrates the golden anniversary of the label and sees 11 artists currently on the roster performing a favorite rock song from Warner’s first 50 years.

The Kills - Their bus driver turns up in Miami months after disappearing

The Kills’ tour bus and its driver mysteriously disappeared in October, as previously reported. The bus was discovered abandoned in a Los Angeles parking lot a week later, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

Now the driver has been arrested in Miami, where he was charged with “robbery by sudden snatching” by Dade County police.

In a posting on The Kills’ MySpace blog earlier this week, the band wrote: “Hi everyone, remember that guy who stole our bus last October? Well, he’s been arrested in Miami for some robbery shit, and for trying to sell public parking spaces for $5. Have a look at his mug on the Miami-Dade County jail website. Good news is, he’s alive. The other good news is, he’s in jail in Florida and he’s bald.”

The Dade County Corrections website identifies the man as Brian Bereknkemper, and displays his picture.

Meanwhile, The Kills are preparing to embark on extensive tours of Europe, Australia and North America this spring.
